Everyone wants to be successful, and everyone wants to be happy. You may wonder if it's possible to be both? The answer is YES!
Both success and happiness mean different things to everyone. I am at my happiest when I am involved in work that I love and also inspiring others to focus on the good in their lives. I am also at my happiest when I take the time to be in nature and focus on being fully present within my life.Happiness is a part of the foundation of creating a flourishing life. However, there are five additional pillars that you can strengthen daily to help you succeed and soar (happily). These five areas of your life form the acronym PERMA and were developed by Martin Seligman, a leading authority in positive psychology.
Positive Emotion:
Where your mind goes your life flows. Let's be honest — life and work can be both exhilarating and challenging. There are things that you can control and things that are out of your control, but one thing you will always have power over are the choices you make. These choices include which thoughts you put into the driver's seat of your life. Every morning you have a choice — you can opt to focus on everything that is going wrong or everything that is going well. At home, we can choose to focus on all the extraordinary things about your loved ones or concentrate on the things that drive you crazy. At work, you can be a benefit seeker or a fault-finder.When you can find the extra-ordinary in the most ordinary of days, you create an environment to see the good in yourself and in those around you. It is not always easy, as our default system is to look for the negative. It is called the negativity bias. It is what kept our ancestors alive, and it is why you are here today reading this article. Negativity sticks to us like Velcro and positivity slides off us like Teflon. This thought process is not a character flaw but is a part of our genetic makeup. However, if left unchecked, it can wreak havoc on both your work and personal life.
