Powders, sprays, primers…there are so many options when it comes to making your clients makeup stick, stay, and set for a hot summer day or night. But when dry skin and oily skin clients alike are asking for a dewy, skin-like glow, how do you set it in place without covering that beautiful shine with powder? Let’s discuss different scenarios and how you might set a client’s makeup for whatever occasion this summer might bring:
SCENARIO ONE:
Client Skin Type: Oily
Desired Makeup Look: Matte
Set it: When your client has oily skin and is asking for a matte finish, powder is the best way to set his or her makeup in place. Along with a mattifying primer, loose or pressed powder will eliminate shine and keep oil at bay throughout the day.
Once you have applied the client’s base, choose a translucent or tinted powder that matches the client’s skin tone. If you’re aiming for a full coverage finish, opt for a powder foundation formula to offer additional coverage. For the most natural finish, use a powder puff or beauty sponge and press the powder evenly over the client’s face. Using a brush can leave a cakey finish, letting the powder sit on top of the skin without fusing it with the foundation. A patting and pressing motion is recommended for an undetectably matte finish.
