As energy work, alternative therapies and ancient holistic practices continue to rise in popularity at spas around the world, more savvy spa owners are adding a unique new position to their staff list: a resident shaman.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a shaman as "a priest or priestess who uses magic for the purpose of curing the sick, divining the hidden, and controlling events." But, today's shaman doesn't necessarily have to use magic — he or she can be anyone with a true calling to heal, who is trained in energy work and/or is experienced in anything from clairvoyance to sound therapy to the Native American medicine wheel.
"Shamans assist you in reconnecting you to your power, your light, and the remembrance of your magnificence,” says Alyson Charles, a.k.a., Rockstar Shaman, who is a clairvoyant and works with Pachamama Earth Energies. “We can heal past pain or trauma, get you through current challenges, and help you activate your gifts, talents and leadership abilities so you can put them out there in a much bigger way in the planet."
