Elizabeth Adam, owner of Elizabeth Adam Salon and Day Spa in Chicago, explains why Spring Cleaning the face is so important: "During winter, dry dead skin cells don't fall away as quickly as they should and when they build up, they can leave skin rough as well as contribute to clogged pores, which leads to blemishes. In the dry, cold months, dry skin patches cover clogged pores and clients mistakenly think they have dry skin," she says. It's important to remind clients that it's more likely that their skin is dehydrated, and not just dry, per se. "When one treats dehydrated skin as dry and covers it with heavy creams, two things may happen. First of all, dead skin cells combined with heavy cream create a skin suffocating paste that results in losing the skin's luster. Secondly, it feeds blemish producing bacteria and aids in skin breakouts," adds Adam.
